Junior Boarding Schools Association
The Junior Boarding Schools Association (www.jbsa.org) is a network of thirteen member schools. There are both co-ed and boys schools in the association ranging from grade one to nine. A few of the member schools also offer day school options. Many also offer exciting summer programs.
Each of the thirteen schools has a different sort of program, but each one is dedicated to providing a nurturing and challenging environment to students.
Junior boarding schools work closely with parents to help students in this time of early adolescence, providing a safe and caring community in a structured environment designed to be fun and exciting, as well as challenging and safe. Teachers are dedicated and committed, and act not only as instructors, but also as surrogate parents, mentors, and friends to students. Teachers are experienced, with an average of 14 years in teaching. Learning in all classrooms is always interactive and hands-on.
Junior boarding schools promote self esteem and self confidence, and encourage students to develop mutual respect, compassion, and a sense of teamwork. Learning is always an individualized process. The average size of a junior boarding school is under 200 students, with six students for each faculty member--a ratio that provides for a high degree of personal attention. Student aid is available, and one in four students receive it. The member schools are diverse, with 11 percent of the student population being students of color, and nine percent being from other countries.
If your goal is to have your student attend one of the prestigious private secondary schools, junior boarding school is an excellent option. Almost all graduates are accepted for admission at these prestigious secondary schools.
Students at member schools have an active social life and enjoy their experiences. There are plenty of sports and weekend activities, with events on campus held on a regular basis.
