The Bement School in Deerfield, MA has begun a Leadership Program for it's 6th and 7th graders in conjunction with the school's Advisor Program. The program, dubbed ALP, Adolescent Leadership Program, was created by a faculty member who took part in a fellowship of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) last year. The students spend one of every three advisor periods (approximately one hour every two weeks), involved in activities and discussions around leadership. Leadership, personal responsibility, group dynamics and stewardship are some of the topics. Some students will take part in optional service projects in an area of their choosing.
