More Information on STUDENTS AT SOUTHWESTERN ACADEMY IN ARIZONA LEARN FROM MORE THAN BOOKS.

Most kids think of learning in schools as books and chalkboards, the student body at Southwestern Academy in Arizona knows different.

This last September they took off on an adventure where it takes more than brains to pass the class.  They camped at Sunset Crater National Park in Flagstaff to join in the Science Erupts Festival.  Their intentions were to take a ski lift to the top of the Arizona Snow bowl to hike and study the area, however, the trail to the top of the peak was closed.  This did not deter the students from finding something to study and enjoy.  The five student body members and a couple of adult chaperones found another four hour tour of the wild to enjoy instead of going back to join the others at the camp.  They have nicknames themselves “The Survivors”.

Instead of heading back, the students decided to go take a tour of the Grand Canyon.  Most believed it was a beautiful site; however one of the best things about it was that they got to shower at a camp site before leaving to come home.

A wonderful example of how to make something out of nothing.  Just when you think your plans have been ruined, a quick mind and some determination to have a great time prevail.
