Westover
School
Westover
School is an independent college
preparatory boarding and day school for young women from grades nine to 12.
Located in
Middlebury,
Connecticut,
which is halfway between
New York and
Boston, it provides an
environment which challenges its students to think independently, embrace
diversity, and grow intellectually and spiritually.
Westover
is a diverse community of scholars and a gathering of both students and
teachers. In conferences, which are one-on-one sessions with teachers, ideas
and concepts are clarified. Students learn how to read, write, reason, ask
meaningful questions, make good decisions, and to take responsibility for their
ongoing education.
Aside
from their academics, students hone their leadership skills through extra-curricular
activities such as Amnesty International, Community Service, Environmental
Action, Global Voices, Wests and Overs, Wick, and many others.
As to
dormitory life,
Westover
School provides excellent
supervision, having 8 dorm parents, who live with the students. They make a
student’s stay at Westover a special one, as they make sure that the girls are
at home and are on hand to give advice and support when needed. Aside from dorm
parents, there are also proctors selected from junior and senior students to
act as mentors for the other girls. Also, aside from day to day interaction
with dorm-mates, activities like Corridor Events make life much more fun and
interesting for students who stay at Westover.
Westover
School is listed as one of the top 10
schools (out of 96) with 200-400 students. Due to its affordability (it has a
high percentage of students on financial aid), and the quality of life,
students living in and out of the school can really enjoy their education.
