Academy of Ballet
The Kirov
Academy of Ballet of Washington, D.C. opened in 1990, and has since become
internationally known. It is has an internationally recognized faculty which
trains aspiring young dancers, producing exceptional ones throughout the years.
It has also provided an opportunity for artistic and cultural exchange between
Russia and the
United States.
Being
such a prestigious institution, students are invited to Kirov Academy of Ballet
only through audition as described on the Academy website. Should they be
fortunate enough to be accepted, the Kirov Academy of Ballet offers a variety
of programs and levels of instruction according to the students’ degree of
proficiency. It is considered unique, having established its own in-house
academic and residence program, which allows for optimal academic and artistic
development.
A full
curriculum for students in grades 7 through 12 is offered by the Kirov Academy
of Ballet. A low student to teacher ratio provides students with the
opportunity to receive individual assistance and guidance. Students participate
in academic subject areas including art, computer science, drama, English,
mathematics, music, Russian, science, and social science. Graduation from the
academic program meets all requirements mandated by the
District of Columbia as well as those
indicated for admission into selective colleges and universities.
A Summer
Program is also offered, which provides comprehensive training for serious
ballet students. An excellent housing and meal plan is offered, as well as a
full range of social and cultural events. End of session demonstration classes
are held for parents and friends.
As to
facilities, the academy has 5 state-of-the-art studios, a comfortable dormitory
with 24-hour resident staff, a dining room, recreational areas and a new
science lab.
