Scattergood Friends School

A Quaker school, Scattergood Friends School was founded in 1890 by Iowa Wilburite Quakers. The school spans for at least 120 acres and its annual enrollment is usually limited to 50. The number of students is small as it is determined by the number of dormitories available for the students. They school offers college preparatory education from Grades 9-12. Because of the small number of students, the teacher student ration is 1:3. Although it’s run by Quakers, the school also accepts students from other faith. Almost a third of the students in this school are from different religion.

Scattergood Friends School maintains itself with the help of the students. They employ the work crew program where each of the students has their own share of work to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the school. They are also preserving the ideals of the Quakers as they share leadership in the place. A 3.5 acre organic farm is maintained among other farm productions. Even with the traditional structure, they have all the modern facilities to enhance the education of the students. The entire school has WIFI coverage and standards subjects to prepare the students for college.

Scattergood Friends School also places a very high emphasis on college acceptance. They have carefully created a school program that will enhance the chances of the students being accepted in their schools. In their junior and senior years, they undergo rigid training for their SATs and ACTs. The training is usually for the whole semester. The juniors make an extra effort to select the school that will best suit their programs. At the same time, the seniors hone their skills in developing strategies in answering the questions. With all these exams and preparations, they are also required to perform research from time to time. This structure was created to have the best preparations possible for college and independent minds to establish points in their research.
