Hillside School

Hillside School is an independent boarding and day school for middle school boys, grades 5 through 9. Founded in 1901, Hillside is situated on over 200 acres of fields, forest, and ponds in Marlborough, Massachusetts, less than a mile from the intersection of routes 495 and 290 (30 miles from Boston). It was founded by the sisters Charlotte Drinkwater, former director of the Boston Y. W. C. A., and Mary Drinkwater Warren. The educational program offered by the sisters consisted of farm work, lessons, moral principles, and play for the younger students. Their curriculum lasted until the 1980s.

The mission of the Hillside School is to help young adolescent boys develop in their formative years. The students in Hillside School gain academic and social skills while building confidence and maturity. Program highlights include a student teacher ratio of 6:1, academic and social skills tutorials, a working farm and farm curriculum, and wonderful cultural opportunities in Boston.

Hillside School does not only seek boys of average to above-average intelligence who are looking for a supportive, structured school, but also students who have been underachieving in other school settings. Hillside's students matriculate at leading independent secondary boarding or day schools as well as local parochial and public high schools.

At present, the Hillside School is determined to continue its mission in providing the best quality education for young boys.
